small modular reactors (SMR)

Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are a new generation of nuclear reactors designed to deliver clean, reliable, and flexible energy on a smaller scale than traditional nuclear power plants. They typically generate between 10 and 300 megawatts of electricity and are built using modular construction, where major components are manufactured in factories and assembled on site. This approach shortens construction timelines, reduces costs, and enhances overall quality and safety.

SMRs are engineered with advanced safety features, including passive safety systems that rely on natural forces such as gravity and convection rather than human intervention or external power sources. Our designs use proven technologies such as water-water (pressurized water) reactor systems, while other SMR concepts explore advanced cooling methods including molten salt and gas. Their compact size enables deployment in remote locations, integration with renewable energy systems, and application in industries such as desalination, hydrogen production, and district heating.

One of the greatest strengths of SMRs is their flexibility. They can be scaled to match energy demand, added incrementally, and installed where large nuclear plants are not practical. With low carbon emissions, high reliability, and strong safety standards, SMRs offer a powerful and sustainable solution for meeting future global energy needs and supporting long-term climate goals.
